The fourth Northwest Florida Poet Laureate, Laurie O'Brien, was an associate professor of English at the University of West Florida. In addition to her work as a teacher, she was also Director of the Creative Writing Program at the same school. She brought those skills into Emerald Coast Writers, where she connected with fellow poets.
