Katherine Nelson-Born earned her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and her PhD from Georgia State University, awarded scholarships from both. Katherine grew up in New Orleans where she earned her undergraduate degree at the University of New Orleans, and she currently lives in Pensacola, Florida where she was inducted as the Poet Laureate of Northwest Florida for a three-year term through Fall of 2023. The 2023 Emerald Coast Review features her poetry along with the 2021 Hurricane Review #18 of Pensacola State College. Katherine’s debut novel’s introductory chapter won an award in the Tallahassee Writers Association (TWA) Seven Hills Literary Competition and chapter publication in the Seven Hills Review, Vol. 25 (2020). Her 2016 poetry chapbook, When Mockingbirds Sing, is available at Finishing Line Press and a second collection, Bone Geometry, was published in 2023 by Emerald Coast Writers, Inc. as part of its poet laureate series.
